It’s finally spring, which means NYC’s festival season is in full swing. Taking place April 18–29, New Yorkers, tourists, and most of the WSWD?! team (we’re huge fans) will flock downtown for the Tribeca Film Festival, a major bash celebrating cinema and television.
Since its inception in 2001, the renowned festival has grown exponentially. Drawing hundreds of thousands of film fanatics, as well as thousands of submissions from up-and-coming filmmakers, the fest has quickly spread out from its strictly Tribeca roots to take over the majority of lower Manhattan. Not only has the Tribeca Film Festival been a key player in the neighborhood’s revitalization since the events of September 11, but it also connects storytellers across different realms of media—from film and television to virtual reality and gaming—and celebrates New York City as a creative force to be reckoned with.
We’ve created this guide to help you get the most out of the festival. Read on for our favorite spots to enjoy a pre- or postshow meal or drink, and where to stay if you are in town for a day or two. The lineup for this year’s event is one of the strongest in recent memory, so if you’re wondering what you should see, we worked with the people behind the fest to pull together a list of must-see films for you. From features to animated shorts to sneak peeks of TV’s hottest shows, we invite you to join us at the 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival.
