A Full Day of Groundbreaking Theater, Food, and More in Dumbo

Your day will begin with a cookie picnic and end with highly innovative theater. What’s not to love about this Brooklyn spot?!

For the uninitiated, this neighborhood has nothing to do with flying elephants and everything to do with the best food, drinks, shopping, and culture in the city. For those in the know, Dumbo is about way more than the perfect selfie!

EAT: Delightful Treats at Patisserie Burrow

If you get to Dumbo early enough in the day, snag a sumptuous oatmeal apricot cookie or the cutest little elephant ear you ever did eat, find a patch of grass near the East River, and nibble your way to heaven. 68 Jay Street, #119

DO: Take a Spin on Jane’s Carousel

You don’t need to know who Jane is—but you can; this beauty was built in 1922 and bought at an auction by Jane and David Walentas, of the real-estate empire, in 1984—to hop aboard a painted steed and take in one of the best views of Manhattan from the waterfront ride. It’s open year-round but not every day, so check here for hours. Brooklyn Bridge Park (between Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges)

BROWSE: Books at PowerHouse Books

Load up on all your literary desires at this indie shop—which is part of the publishing company of the same name—and be sure to check the calendar of events for readings, book launches, and more. 28 Adams Street

SHOP: At the Eclectic Gem Front General Store

In the market for a cool old globe? A sweet new bag? Vintage shades? This charming boutique has you covered on all fronts. 143 Front Street

EAT: The Best Pizza in the City

The pie wars have officially come to Dumbo. Sure, you know about the legendary thin-crust slices at Grimaldi’s, but you must also try the saucy offerings at Juliana’s and the soon-to-open second location of Sicilian square masters L&B Spumoni Gardens. 1 Front Street and surrounding streets

DO: See Groundbreaking Theater at St. Ann’s Warehouse

The deservedly hyped Oklahoma! revival got it’s start here—as have many other amazing shows—before moving to Broadway. Innovative theater at its best! 45 Water Street

DRINK: The Perfect Glass of Wine at Atrium Dumbo

Everything here is modern and buoyant—from the lush foliage spilling over a short wall to the comprehensive, beloved wine list. For the peckish, the New American cuisine pairs with everything! 15 Main Street
