An Ode to Oddballs

"Dear Evan Hansen" is a love letter to misfits everywhere.

Musical theater has always been a refuge for young people who don’t feel like they fit in. And the wonderful Dear Evan Hansen—moving to Broadway after a sold-out off-Broadway run—provides the perfect haven for misfits, loners, oddballs, and anyone who’s ever felt even slightly uncomfortable at a party or meeting. It’s not surprising that this tale of a tortured high school nerd who is forced into the spotlight is directed by Michael Greif, the original director of Rent. And Ben Platt—the lovable Benji Applebaum from Pitch Perfect!—gives the performance of a lifetime as the titular Evan Hansen.
