Over the next few weeks, comedians and comedy events provide plenty of incentive to leave the house—big names like Matt Braunger and Chad Daniels are joined by the likes of TruTV and even Dumbledore. Here are some of the best comedy events coming down the pipeline this month in Chicago.

Chad Daniels at Park West
Daniels is a veteran comedian with three appearances on Conan, one on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and a half hour special on Comedy Central. The native Minnesotan is known for eschewing the coasts for a more grounded family life in Minnesota, but his comedy sharp, occasionally dark and deeply relatable.

Character Assassination: Roast of Dumbledore at Laugh Factory
With chapters in Chicago and Louisville, the crew at Character Assassination hosts monthly roasts of fictional characters, replete with professional costumes from local shops and stage suppliers. The shows are performed in the style of a Comedy Central roast, featuring the entire lineup onstage for the duration of the show, each taking turns roasting the squad. The jokes are very specific to the theme of the show, so if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, maybe wait to see what next month’s character will be.

TruTV Live Taping at Laugh Factory
TruTV’s show Laff Tracks is casting for another season and they’re hosting audition showcases in several major cities. The Chicago auditions will feature the best comics in the city vying for that ever-so-coveted television credit, with a mix of stand-up comedy and comedic storytelling.

One Liner Madness at The Hideout
Coming to town from New York, where it was hailed as a critic’s pick by Time Out New York, One Liner Madness is a fast-paced, single-elimination, one-liner joke contest. The show is the brainchild of NYC comics Emily Winter and Larry Mancini, and will feature 64 comedians who will advance based on audience applause, in a March Madness-style bracket. The guest judge is local comic/producer Meredith Kachel, who is involved with several popular shows in the city.

Matt Braunger at Schubas
Braunger is a veteran comic based out of L.A., but like many big-name comedians, he called Chicago home for years. He’s had appearances on Conan and Letterman, an hour-long Comedy Central special, several albums and over a dozen roles in sitcoms and other television shows. Braunger is also the co-founder of the widely popular Bridgetown Comedy festival, which takes place annually in Portland, Oregon, where he’s originally from.
