JetBlue: A Summer Day of Art, Food, and Cocktails (and a Rooftop Beach!) for NYC-Loving Couples

The Whitney Museum is always a must-visit—here’s where to head for food, drinks, and even a quick dip when you are done soaking up all that culture.

World-famous art. Drinks constructed by a “mixology strategist.” A rooftop pool—and beach! For the perfect summer day, there’s no reason to leave Chelsea.

SEE: Groundbreaking Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art

Originally created in 1930 as the country’s first museum dedicated to American art, the Whitney’s still-newish Renzo Piano–designed building is home to an unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary masterpieces. The heart-melting, panoramic view from the upper terrace doesn’t hurt either. 99 Gansevoort Street (between Washington and West Streets)

EAT: Seasonal Sensations at Untitled

The Whitney’s ground floor is home to this culinary concept dedicated to vibrant, artful cooking. Chef Suzanne Cupps’s menu revolves around hyper-seasonal, global-inspired fine fare, but the cookies and milk dessert is a must-taste every time. 99 Gansevoort Street (between Washington and West Streets)

SHOP: The Bohemian Blowout That Is Artists & Fleas

Emerging creators and designers showcase their latest pieces at this always-bustling marketplace at the foot of Chelsea Market. One-of-a-kind looks, jewelry, accessories, and housewares are all available, but only for a limited time. 88 Tenth Avenue (at West 15th Street)

DO: Take a Dip in the Rooftop Pool at Dream Downtown Hotel’s “Beach”

Float above the bustle below in the glass-bottom pool—its porthole windows look down into the lobby—at Dream Downtown’s rooftop getaway, The Beach. The large deck (which includes actual sand!) also offers a curated summer menu filled with shareable dishes like shrimp ceviche and lobster tostadas. Day passes are available Monday–Friday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. 355 West 16th Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenues)

DRINK: Updated Classics at Intersect by Lexus

Gourmands may come for the restaurant’s ever-evolving cuisine concepts, but libation lovers should take a seat inside the attached cocktail lounge, where “mixology strategists” shake and stir in the middle of a 360-degree round bar. 412 West 14th Street (between Ninth Avenue and Washington Street)
