Start your evening adventure in this cobblestone neighborhood for some optical illusions and a sugar rush before strolling the High Line to a kung fu musical!

DO: Make an Early-Evening Swing Through the Museum of Illusions

Although there are enough photo ops here to please the ’grammers, this interactive collection of brainteasers and optical illusions is the real deal. So while you can take a funky photo that looks like your head is on a platter, you can also solve puzzles, figure out the secrets behind common illusions, and learn how and why your brain plays tricks on you. 77 Eighth Avenue (at West 14th Street)

EAT: Plenty of Sucrose at the Sugar Factory

Kids won’t complain about dinner at a place with sugar in the name, and they certainly won’t whine about the Technicolor drinks that come in gigantic steaming goblets and are topped with gummies, candied fruit slices, and cotton candy. Don’t worry, the eatery has yummy salads, sandwiches, and burgers for the grown-ups, too. 835 Washington Street (at Little West 12th Street)

STROLL: Along the High Line

There’s no better place from which to watch the sun dip below the Hudson River—and take a post-dinner promenade—than this elevated converted train track. Take it all the way to the brand-spanking-new Hudson Yards (a 20-minute walk) for your next adventure. Enter at the staircase at Gansevoort and Washington Streets

SEE: A Kung Fu Musical at the Shed

Arrive at the lunar-looking, state-of-the-art venue in time to see the 8 p.m. performance of Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise, a very cool and very stylized martial arts/dance show with music by Sia! 545 West 30th Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues)
