Layover at JFK airport? You’re actually in luck! JetBlue’s Terminal 5 is one of the most family-friendly terminals in the country. Here’s what to do, where to eat, and how to actually have fun at the airport with kids.
DO: Let the Kids Loose at One of Terminal 5’s Two Indoor Play Areas
Bless the designers who included not one, but two play spaces in their blueprints! Toddlers, preschoolers, and early graders love the giant, climbable pirate ship at Amazon’s Tumble Leaf Playground (Terminal 5, Gate 12), and kids of all ages enjoy exploring the cockpit and cabin simulation at JetBlue Junior (Gate 26).
EAT: Sit Down at AeroNuova
If you have time for a restaurant meal and kids that can handle it, this Italian spot with solid pizza and pasta (we get the rigatoni Bolognese every time we travel through JFK) will please everyone. T5 Marketplace
SHOP: At Dylan’s Candy Bar
Most parenting rules can and should be suspended during air travel, so head to this whimsical sugar shack and load up. Use the gummy sharks and sour worms as in-flight bribes (we don’t judge!). Gate 20
DO: Burn Off the Sugar on the T5 Rooftop & Wooftop Lounge
Run around on the roof, pet some doggies, and breathe some real-life outdoor air. Imagine that! Entrance across from Gate 28
SNACK: At the Food Court
On the move? The Food Court, true to its name, has all the foods, including healthy-ish kid favorites like Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies, Jammy Sammys, and GoGo Squeez, plus a salad bar, hot food bar, pizza—and plenty of coffee for you.
