Countdown
It’s big, it’s mainstream, and it just might be the most appropriate way to see out a decade in which festival EDM came to dominate the world—or the galaxy, if this yearly NYE megafest’s new alien theme is to be believed. Redeeming mainstream EDM acts like Galantis and Oliver Heldens make the packed main stage not a total avoid, while highlights such as a Porter Robinson DJ set and tech-house star Chris Lorenzo give you plenty to shake your space suit to elsewhere. Nos Events Center, 689 South E Street, San Bernardino

Gilded NYE
Most people have to work hard for years to earn a spot onstage at Theatre at Ace Hotel. For tonight all it takes is $200 and an eager appetite, as the theater serves up a three-course New Year’s Eve feast on the stage, followed by a dance party raging until 2020. Those dining elsewhere can attend the dance party only at either GA ($35 advance/$50 door) or VIP ($200, includes open bar) levels. Theatre at Ace Hotel, 929 South Broadway

Midnight Lovers NYE
Idiosyncratic headlining duo Juan Power, indoor and outdoor stages, and a no-phones policy on the dance floor make this party an underground dance purist’s dream. Specific DTLA location to be revealed mere hours ahead of time, so be ready to mobilize, and wear your dancing shoes as the vibes continue into an afterparty that goes all the way until noon—yes, noon—on New Year’s Day. Downtown location TBA with ticket purchase

Minimal Effort: NYE
The relatively new Minimal Effort has quickly established itself as the deep house and techno fan’s alternative to flashy holiday parties, and its New Year’s Eve blowout features legendary Deep Dish cofounder Sharam, local house hero Doc Martin, and oh so many more. It’s the perfect place to carry your groove from this decade into the next. Los Angeles Theatre, 615 South Broadway

Disco Dining Club & New Year’s Eve at the Standard DTLA
Looking for the most decadent debauchery L.A. has to offer to the general public? Here you go. The legendary Disco Dining Club experience—which adds in a three-course meal with wine, cocktails, caviar, and theatrical entertainment inspired by the glamour of Berlin in the 1920s—includes  a rooftop party featuring old-school house legend Tony Humphries and alt-pop provocateur Geneva Jacuzzi. Standard DTLA, 550 Flower Street

NYE Techno by Compound
This is that no-nonsense techno: brooding, pulsating soundscapes that turn your wardrobe black and command you to move as the hours blur into one unending moment of musical perfection…or rather until 8 a.m. Location TBA with ticket purchase

Poolside New Year’s Eve
True to its name, L.A.-grown disco outfit Poolside transports you right to a sunny daytime pool party, glowing with the fuzzy haze of simpler times. And if that’s not the perfectly optimistic note to start the new decade on, what is? Fonda Theatre, 6126 Hollywood Boulevard

Substance NYE With TR/ST
The industrial strains of TR/ST are totally danceable, in a tortured, Crystal Castles kind of way. If this is to be the decade that AI finally merges with mankind, then the tech-afflicted hauntings of this group just might be a sign. Regent DTLA, 448 South Main Street

Twelve 31
Techno die-hards will want to stake out the dance floor at this internationally flavored music mecca, where Adam Beyer’s sparkly Swedish flair, Enrico Sangiuliano’s meticulous perfectionism, and Nicole Moudaber’s shadowy, bubbling beats will carry you into the new decade on a wave of techno heaven. Hollywood Palladium, 6215 Sunset Boulevard

Sound Dunes NYE
This house-and-disco fling turns the always raucous Madam Siam up another notch, with free entry with RSVP before 11 p.m. Madam Siam, 1723 North Hudson Avenue
