This weekend will be practically perfect in every way.
Eating + Drinking
Sure, flowers are wonderful to look at. But wouldn’t they be even better to drink? Mixologists Gates Otsuji and Estelle Bossy think so, which is why they are teaching how to incorporate florals into cocktails in three totally unique ways. Sunday, December 15; 4–5 p.m.; Il Fiorista, 17 West 26th Street (between Broadway and Sixth Avenue), Flatiron
Ran Xia’s poetic, expressionist two-hander, In Blue, examines the art and friendship of German painter Franz Marc and writer Else Lasker-Schüler, as the latter searches for the deceased Marc’s lost masterpiece, The Tower of Blue Horses. Through Sunday, December 15; The Tank, 312 West 36th Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenues), Garment District
Un-Google-able MC MIKE works in the margins of what used to be (sometimes derogatorily) known as backpack rap: introspective, lyrically complex, and doggedly uncommercial. That’s not to say he hasn’t amassed some influential fans, including the folks running the never-risk-averse Abrons Arts Center, who have hired MIKE to curate the inaugural year of its three-day hip-hop culture festival, Young World. Performers scheduled to take part include up-and-coming Internet-friendly rappers Quelle Chris, Baby Sosa, Sporting Life, and Maasai; the festival will be presented in tandem with Joygill Moriah’s immersive art exhibition, “Our Beautiful Planet.” Friday, December 13–Sunday, December 15; 5 p.m.; Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand Street (between Pitt and Willett Streets), Lower East Side
Step in time—and then right into the Chimney’s gallery space for a look at French artist Gilles Barber’s Mary Poppins–inspired exhibition, “Laughing at Clouds.” The beloved kids’ movie is represented throughout the Surrealist set, which is filled with dozens of the magical nanny’s signature black umbrella, as well as floating speech bubbles. Through Sunday, December 15; The Chimney, 200 Morgan Avenue, East Williamsburg
Shop smarter at theSkimm’s holiday pop-up, where you’ll find the perfect gifts for family, friends, pets, coworkers, and even yourself, all in one place. Through Tuesday, December 24; 909 Broadway (at East 20th Street), Flatiron
