Which free Prospect Park concerts are worth waiting in line for? No cutsies!

Even resident New York music nerds have a tendency to get SummerStage and BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! confused. It’s understandable; both are predominantly free performance festivals (with the occasional paid benefit concert) featuring eclectic programming set in public parks. You will perhaps be standing next to someone vaping! (But you can easily move away.)

While SummerStage hosts shows in parks in all five boroughs (the most well-known one being Central Park), however, the BRIC-programmed Celebrate Brooklyn! series takes place exclusively in Brooklyn’s bucolic Prospect Park, in a setting that can comfortably hold up to 7,000. That size allows for big-name artists, sizable crowds, and a decidedly more local vibe. BRIC just announced a jams-packed run of 25 free shows and six benefit performances. While the whole lineup is worth exploration, we’ve pulled out 10 can’t-miss performances encompassing a genre-diverse selection of artists.
